High school seniors planning to attend UI, transfer students, and current UI students are welcome to audition for the Marching Illini. Audition dates are listed below. If you're unsure about the time committment and responsibility (as well as fun!) involved, we've provided some more information for prospective members.
Wind Auditions
Marching Illini wind auditions will last approximately 10 minutes. Candidates must prepare a solo or etude of no longer than three minutes in length. Any style is acceptable, and no accompanist is necessary. In addition, the candidate will be required to play 1 chromatic scale and 2 major scales of his/her choice. The audition will also include a brief sight-reading excerpt. Audition Dates

Students must be accepted into the University before setting up an audition time. Conflict auditions are available if you are unable to attend one of these audition dates; please call the band office after February 1 to set up an alternative time. Since audition results are announced in early May, students must complete their audition by April 28th. Auditions will continue through the summer for any remaining openings. If a student desires to audition on multiple instruments (for instance, alto and tenor saxophone) they should sign up for multiple time slots.
Drumline Auditions
Students should attend as many of the following clinics and camps as possible. The audition date will be announced. If you have a personal, professional, or school conflict with this date, please contact Ben Collins at bdcollin@uiuc.edu for an alternate arrangement.

While it is to the student's benefit to attend as many of the camps as possible, missing a camp date due to
high school conflicts will not hurt a student's chance of being selected for the drumline. No prepared
solo is needed for Drumline auditions.
