Comprised of approximately 60 undergraduate and graduate students who have attained the highest level of proficiency on their instruments, the Illinois Wind Symphony is the premiere ensemble of the University of Illinois band program. Performing the finest available repertoire, the ensemble's performances include traditional wind band literature, one-per-part chamber works and premiere performances of new compositions in the ever expanding wind band genre.

Comprised of approximately 60 undergraduate and graduate students who have attained an exceptional level of proficiency on their instruments, the Illinois Wind Orchestra is the second artistic concert band of the University of Illinois band program. Like the Wind Symphony, the Wind Orchestra performs large and chamber wind repertoire, new / contemporary music, and has a specific curricular design focused on variety of styles throughout the year.

The University of Illinois Harding Symphonic Band consists of approximately 70 musicians and is audition-equivalent to the Hindsley Symphonic Band.  In traditional symphonic band format, this ensemble performs large ensemble works, quality repertoire on various levels, historic transcriptions, and focuses on both experience and proficiency development for student members. Concerts for the Harding Symphonic Band are on campus at the Krannert Center for Performing Arts and usually in tandem with the Hindsley Symphonic Band.

The UI Hindsley Symphonic Band consists of approximately 70 musicians and is audition-equivalent to the UI Harding Symphonic Band.  In traditional symphonic band format, this ensemble is a set instrumentation and performs large ensemble works, quality repertoire on various levels, historic transcriptions, and focuses on both experience and proficiency development for student members. Concerts for the Hindsley Symphonic Band are on campus at a variety of venues and usually in tandem with the Harding Symphonic Band.

The UI University Band is on equal positioning with the UI Campus Band.  A traditional concert band with set instrumentation, the University Band performs large ensemble works and is specifically focused on providing members with a variety of quality repertoire, unique/untraditional repertoire, and non-traditional collaborations. Concerts for the University Band are held on campus at a variety of venues and usually in tandem with the UI Campus Band.

The British Brass Band meets during the Spring Semester and is limited to a strict instrumentation of 32 wind and percussion players. Performing in the British Brass Band provides brass and percussion students a unique opportunity to display their musicianship and technical skills while learning the intricacies of this special ensemble medium.

The University of Illinois Marching Illini is proud to be The Nation's Premier College Marching Band. The unique style of the Marching Illini represents a combination of time-honored traditions and exciting innovations.

The University of Illinois Bands has a long lasting tradition of excellence and its basketball bands are no exception. The University of Illinois Basketball Bands perform at all of the Illinois home basketball games for both the men's and the women's teams. The bands are divided into "Orange,"  "Blue," and "Illini" equal bands and each consist of 47 wind players, 2 drum set players, 1 guitar player, 1 bass guitar player, and 1 keyboard player.

The Orange and Blues Band is a carefully selected honor for approximately 50 members of the Marching Illini.  This band, comprised of the strongest performers and most dedicated members, play volleyball games, extra athletic events, the Illini Walk (before every home game), and many services for the University of Illinois and the community of Urbana-Champaign.  Performers are selected by instrumentation and music memorization scores received the first day of preseason camp.
