Spring 2012 Wind/Brass/Percussion
Ensemble Placement Auditions

I. "Advanced" Audition Information for Illinois Wind Symphony, UI Symphony Orchestra, Wind Orchestra, and Philharmonia

*All music majors enrolled in applied wind/brass/percussion take this audition.
*All non-majors who want to be considered for the top tier ensembles are also welcome to take this audition.

Detailed information is posted on the School of Music website (including pdf excerpts).
Go HERE for full information and PDF excerpts for the "advanced" audition.

NOTE: There is a mistake in the tempo marking in the saxophone audition excerpt #3 by Gariboldi.  The tempo should be dotted half = 76 so that it is played one beat per measure.  It should NOT be dotted quarter.

Auditions will be in The Krannert Center for the Performing Arts.
Check-in and Warm-up will be in or near ORR (Orchestra Rehearsal Room) on Level 2 (production level) of KCPA. The audition will be on the Festival Theater stage. A guide will escort you from the warm-up area.

Please sign up for a time block (three people per 15 min. block) in the South Foyer of the Music Building (Nevada Side).  Just find your instrument and select a line within a 15 min. block.  Although this doesn't guarentee an exact time, it does narrow the time frame you will need to be around for the audition.

When you arrive at the audition, you will fill out an on-line form (on the provided laptop) and will be assigned a number from the monitor. The monitor will take each individual in and and out of the audition room, will announce your number to the blind panel, and will let you know exactly which of the excerpts to play from the prepared list.
